Arabic Keyboard Online
Type Arabic on any computer or phone. Click the keys, or type on your own keyboard and the letters come out in Arabic.
How to use the Arabic keyboard
Click or tap any key to add that character to the text box. Arabic is written from right to left, so the text starts at the right edge and grows leftwards.
On a computer you can also type on your physical keyboard. The keys follow the standard Arabic keyboard, so pressing F gives ب and pressing H gives ا. The small grey character on a key shows the matching key on a US English keyboard. Untick “Type Arabic with my physical keyboard” to go back to your keyboard's normal letters.
When you are done, press Copy and paste the text into an email, a document or a chat. The “Search with” buttons open Google, YouTube, Wikipedia or Google Translate with what you typed.
The Arabic alphabet on this keyboard
Arabic has 28 letters and is written from right to left. Each letter changes shape depending on whether it starts, continues or ends a word. You only press the letter; the joining happens on its own as you type.
Shift gives the harakat (short vowel marks) and the hamza forms of alef: fatha is on Q, damma on E, kasra on A, sukun on X and shadda on the top-left key. Type the letter first, then the mark.
The B key types lam-alef (لا) in one press. The Arabic comma ، is Shift + K and the question mark ؟ is Shift + /.
Questions
Do I need to install anything?
No. The keyboard runs in your browser and works without changing any settings on your computer or phone.
How do I type harakat (tashkeel)?
Type the letter, then press Shift and the key for the mark. Hover over a key to see the name of the mark.
Why do the letters change shape as I type?
Arabic letters join to their neighbours, so the same letter looks different at the start, middle and end of a word. This is correct and happens automatically.
Why does it type 1 2 3 and not ١ ٢ ٣?
The standard Arabic keyboard sends ordinary digits, and many Arabic-speaking countries write numbers that way. Whether they display as ١ ٢ ٣ depends on the program you paste into.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
Your text is kept only in your own browser so it is still there if you reload the page. It is not sent to us. Press Clear to remove it. If you use a “Search with” button, your text is sent to that site as a search.
