How to use the Ukrainian keyboard
Click or tap any key to add that character to the text box.
On a computer you can also type on your physical keyboard. The keys follow the standard Ukrainian layout, so pressing S gives і and pressing F gives а. The small grey character on a key shows the matching key on a US English keyboard. Untick “Type Ukrainian with my physical keyboard” to go back to your keyboard's normal letters.
When you are done, press Copy and paste the text into an email, a document or a chat. The “Search with” buttons open Google, YouTube, Wikipedia or Google Translate with what you typed.
The Ukrainian alphabet on this keyboard
Ukrainian has 33 letters. Most sit where a Russian keyboard has them, and the Ukrainian letters і, ї and є take the places of Russian ы, ъ and э: і on S, ї to the right of х, and є to the right of ж.
ґ is AltGr + U (the г key), and Shift + AltGr + U gives Ґ. The apostrophe, used in words such as м’ясо, is the top-left key; with Shift that key gives the hryvnia sign ₴.
The full stop is the key next to the right Shift, and the comma is Shift with that key.
Questions
Do I need to install anything?
No. The keyboard runs in your browser and works without changing any settings on your computer or phone.
Where is the letter ґ?
Press AltGr and then U, the key that types г. Add Shift for the capital Ґ.
How do I type the apostrophe?
It is the top-left key, to the left of 1. Ukrainian uses it in words such as м’ясо and п’ять.
Is this the same as the Russian keyboard?
Almost. Ukrainian has і, ї, є and ґ, which Russian does not, and does not use ы, ъ, э or ё. Those keys carry the Ukrainian letters instead; everything else is where a Russian keyboard has it.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
Your text is kept only in your own browser so it is still there if you reload the page. It is not sent to us. Press Clear to remove it. If you use a “Search with” button, your text is sent to that site as a search.
