How to use the Pashto keyboard

Click or tap any key to add that character to the text box. Pashto is written from right to left, so the text starts at the right edge and grows leftwards.

On a computer you can also type on your physical keyboard. The keys follow the standard Pashto keyboard of Afghanistan, so pressing H gives ا and pressing M gives ړ. The small grey character on a key shows the matching key on a US English keyboard. Untick “Type Pashto with my physical keyboard” to go back to your keyboard's normal letters.

When you are done, press Copy and paste the text into an email, a document or a chat. The “Search with” buttons open Google, YouTube, Wikipedia or Google Translate with what you typed.

Pashto letters on this keyboard

Pashto is written from right to left in an extended Arabic script with 44 letters, including ټ, ډ, ړ, ږ, ښ, ګ, ڼ, ځ, څ, ې and ۍ. Letters join to their neighbours and change shape as you type; that happens on its own.

Some Pashto letters have keys of their own: ړ on M, ږ on ., ګ on ' and ې on X. Others are on Shift: ټ on J, ډ on N, ښ on A, ڼ on K, ځ on O, څ on P and ۍ on S.

The number row types Pashto digits (۱۲۳). Shift on the top letter row gives the short-vowel marks, and Shift + B is the half-space (zero-width non-joiner), labelled نیم‌فاصله.
