How to use the Bengali keyboard

Click or tap any key to add that character to the text box.

On a computer you can also type on your physical keyboard. The keys follow the InScript layout, so pressing K gives ক and pressing H gives প. The small grey character on a key shows the matching key on a US English keyboard. Untick “Type Bengali with my physical keyboard” to go back to your keyboard's normal letters.

When you are done, press Copy and paste the text into an email, a document or a chat. The “Search with” buttons open Google, YouTube, Wikipedia or Google Translate with what you typed.

How the Bengali keyboard is arranged

InScript puts vowel signs (kar) under the left hand and consonants under the right. Shift gives the full vowel in place of its sign, and the aspirated partner of a consonant: K is ক and Shift + K is খ.

Type the consonant first and the vowel sign after it, even when the sign is drawn to the left: ক then F gives কি.

To join consonants, put a hasanta (্, on the D key) between them: ক, hasanta, ষ gives ক্ষ. The number row types the Bengali digits ০–৯; hold AltGr for 1–9. Shift + J gives ৎ, and ড় and ঢ় are typed as ড or ঢ followed by the nukta key to the right of [.
