Korean Keyboard Online
A free virtual Korean keyboard. Type Korean (Hangul) on any computer or phone. Click the keys, or type on your own keyboard: the letters join into syllables as you go, just as on a Korean keyboard.
How to use the Korean keyboard
Click or tap any key to add that character to the text box.
On a computer you can also type on your physical keyboard. The keys follow the standard Korean two-set (Dubeolsik) layout, so pressing G, K and S types 한. The small grey character on a key shows the matching key on a US English keyboard. Untick “Type Korean with my physical keyboard” to go back to your keyboard's normal letters.
When you are done, press Copy and paste the text into an email, a document or a chat. The “Search with” buttons open Google, YouTube, Wikipedia or Google Translate with what you typed.
How Korean typing works
Korean is written in syllable blocks. You type the letters one at a time, consonants under the left hand and vowels under the right, and the keyboard joins them into blocks: ㅎ, ㅏ and ㄴ make 한, and ㄱ, ㅡ and ㄹ make 글.
Shift gives the double consonants ㅃ, ㅉ, ㄸ, ㄲ and ㅆ and the vowels ㅒ and ㅖ. Combined vowels such as ㅘ and pairs of final consonants such as ㄺ are made by typing their parts in order.
While you are typing a syllable, Backspace takes it apart one letter at a time. Once you move the cursor or type a space, it deletes whole characters again.
Questions
Do I need to install anything?
No. The keyboard runs in your browser and works without changing any settings on your computer or phone.
Which Korean layout is this?
The standard two-set (Dubeolsik) layout, KS X 5002, which almost everyone in Korea uses. It works on computers with no Korean keyboard installed, because this page joins the letters into syllables itself.
How do I type double consonants such as ㄲ?
Hold Shift and press the key for the single consonant: Shift + R gives ㄲ.
Why did a letter jump to the next syllable?
When a vowel follows a final consonant, the consonant moves to start the new syllable, as Korean spelling requires: typing ㄷ ㅏ ㄹ ㄱ gives 닭, and adding ㅏ turns it into 달가.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
Your text is kept only in your own browser so it is still there if you reload the page. It is not sent to us. Press Clear to remove it. If you use a “Search with” button, your text is sent to that site as a search.
