Persian (Farsi) Keyboard Online

A free virtual Persian keyboard. Type Persian (Farsi) on any computer or phone. Click the keys, or type on your own keyboard and the letters come out in Persian.

How to use the Persian keyboard

Click or tap any key to add that character to the text box. Persian is written from right to left, so the text starts at the right edge and grows leftwards.

On a computer you can also type on your physical keyboard. The keys follow Iran's standard Persian layout, so pressing D gives ی and pressing H gives ا. The small grey character on a key shows the matching key on a US English keyboard. Untick “Type Persian with my physical keyboard” to go back to your keyboard's normal letters.

When you are done, press Copy and paste the text into an email, a document or a chat. The “Search with” buttons open Google, YouTube, Wikipedia or Google Translate with what you typed.

The Persian alphabet on this keyboard

Persian is written from right to left in an extended Arabic script with 32 letters, including پ, چ, ژ and گ, which Arabic does not have. Letters join to their neighbours and change shape as you type; that happens on its own.

Many Persian words need a half-space (نیم‌فاصله), an invisible break that stops two letters joining without adding a gap, as in می‌خواهم. It is on Shift + B, and the key is labelled نیم‌فاصله.

The number row types Persian digits (۱۲۳). Shift gives the short-vowel marks and the Arabic forms of some letters, such as ي and ك, for quoting Arabic text.

Questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. The keyboard runs in your browser and works without changing any settings on your computer or phone.

How do I type a half-space?

Press Shift + B. The key is labelled نیم‌فاصله. It keeps words such as می‌خواهم and کتاب‌ها joined and spaced correctly.

Why does it type Persian digits?

The standard Persian keyboard types Persian digits (۱۲۳). For Western digits (123), untick “Type Persian with my physical keyboard” and type them on your own keyboard.

Is this different from the Arabic keyboard?

Yes. Persian has its own layout with the letters پ, چ, ژ and گ, and uses the Persian forms of ی and ک. Use this keyboard for Persian and the Arabic keyboard for Arabic.

Is my text saved or sent anywhere?

Your text is kept only in your own browser so it is still there if you reload the page. It is not sent to us. Press Clear to remove it. If you use a “Search with” button, your text is sent to that site as a search.
